“one rm shelter, new const, loft storage, woodbrnstove, cozy, must provide lot, call Mad Housers (404)806-6233,” reused plywood. paint, panels, tyvek paper, 2009

"one rm shelter....," is an installation that I recently finished at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. For this work I re-used dismantled walls of the gallery with the help from members of the Mad Housers, an Atlanta based non-profit group, who build huts for the homeless. In the exhibition the walls are in various states: half removed, partially built or leaning. The old gallery walls that were exposed become the visual source for the paintings on paper and canvas that conflate where the archeological and artificial begin and end.
A landscape painting is installed on the back wall of the shelter to give the shelter a more spacious feeling when it is a home.
After the exhibition the hut will be donated to a homeless citizen to live in.
